‘Clear Edge!’ (Klare Kante!) at the Dortmunder U: Participation in the BBK state art exhibition
The BBK State Art Exhibition NRW 2022 entitled ‘Klare Kante!’, in which I was represented with one of my abstract paintings, took place from 11 November 2022 to 8 January 2023 at the Dortmunder U. Organised by the Bundesverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Westfalen e.V. in cooperation with the Museum Ostwall, the exhibition presented 127 works by artists from all nine BBK regions in North Rhine-Westphalia. The artworks at the BBK Landeskunstausstellung NRW addressed socially relevant issues such as climate change, environmental destruction, war and gender equality and reflected the diversity of contemporary forms of expression, including painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation.
The NRW State Art Exhibition was divided into six thematic sections, which presented the artists’ different perspectives and approaches to the motto “Klare Kante!”. The sections were entitled: ‘Everything is going its own way’, ‘We’re having a good time’, ‘You can do something too’, ‘I’m making a statement’, ‘You speak out’ and ‘You have a voice too’. The works were selected by a jury of experts, who chose 127 from over 1,600 submissions. The exhibition was conceived by curator Dr Natalie Gutgesell and offered a comprehensive overview of current art in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The expert jury for the BBK State Art Exhibition NRW 2022 ‘Klare Kante!’ consisted of the following members.
- Dr Natalie Gutgesell, art historian
- Sepp Hiekisch-Picard, art historian and deputy director of the Kunstmuseum Bochum
- Natalie Çalkozan, curator at the Museum Ostwall Dortmund
- Dr Florence Thurmes, Director of the Museum Ostwall Dortmund
- Friederike Graben, artist from Cologne
With the aim of establishing the state art exhibition every five years in future, the BBK Westfalen has sent out a strong signal in favour of the promotion and visibility of the visual arts in North Rhine-Westphalia.
